Ms. Brown was inspired to become a cosmetologist, in part, because her mother was a stylist. She also loves helping people look and feel better about themselves. She decided to go into education to help people find a career they enjoy much like she has. According to Ms. Brown, there’s nothing better than seeing the students achieve their dreams and goals.

Ms. Brown has worked as a Cosmetologist for over 18 years and has been an instructor at The Salon Professional Academy since 2007. She also holds a cosmetology manager’s license, an instructor’s license, and is MUD certified.

Penny Nelson

Director of Education

As the Director of Education for The Salon Professional Academy, Ms. Nelson’s responsibilities include mentoring and training educators, writing curriculum and over seeing the day-to-day operations of the school. However, her real love is coaching and mentoring the students as they prepare for their future careers in the cosmetology industry. Ms. Nelson believes that communication is key to a successful career saying ““If you can listen first and respond with great customer service, then success will follow.”

Ms. Nelson has been working in the beauty industry for the last 20+ years as a stylist and salon manager. She has been with The Salon Professional Academy since it opened its doors in 2006.

After Brian got his first ever massage, he immediately knew he wanted to pass on that incredible feeling to others. Brian immediately signed up for an acupressure class and hasn’t looked back ever since!

Professional Experience
Over the past 22 years, Brian has worked for chiropractors and spas, as well as being self-employed. In addition to being a massage therapist, Brian is also a Qi Gong practitioner and a Reiki Master.

Ms. Cassy became a cosmetologist because she loves making people feel beautiful inside and out. With the constant growth and change in the beauty and wellness industry, Ms. Cassy loves that there continues to be new knowledge to learn! She also likes to see those “a-ha!” moments when a student understands a concept or technique she or he has been working on.

Ms. Cassy has worked at a stylist for over the past 11 years and has also been an educator at The Salon Professional Academy for the past five years. In addition to being a licensed cosmetologist, Ms. Cassy is also Color Authority Certified.

Ms. Green has been interested in hair since she was just a little girl! She loves working in an industry that excites her and she’s incredibly passionate about. Ms. Green felt that the industry had given so much to her, so she decided to become an educator so that she could give back to it. She feels incredible joy from working with students and loves watching as they grow and progress through their programs.

Ms. Green is one of our most experienced staff members. She has worked in the beauty industry for over 35 years as a stylist and manager! She’s been an educator with The Salon Professional Academy for over 10 years.

Jacci Horstman

Jacci’s background in orthopedics results in an approach that involves teaching students the fundamentals in anatomy and physiology before moving into orthopedically-oriented hands-on learning. Jacci wants to ensure that her students have a solid background in the fundamentals, but she also stresses a mindful and compassionate approach to client care.

Jacci worked in the healthcare field for over 15 years, including in the ER, OB, and surgery. She also spent eight years in orthopedics. In addition to being one of our instructors, Jacci also currently owns her own massage business.

Ms. Johnson started her career in a salon while still in high school. While she worked cleaning the salon, she realized how much the industry had to offer in terms of enjoyment and a creative atmosphere. Today, Ms. Johnson’s favorite part of her work is making people feel happy and great about themselves.

Ms. Johnson is our most experienced instructor and has been in the beauty field for 43 years! She has both a cosmetology license and a manager license. She has worked at The Salon Professional Academy since 2007. In her role as an educator, Ms. Johnson loves seeing the growth in students, all the way from starting school to graduation and continuing their careers!

Kate Swenson

Ms. Swenson became a cosmetologist because she enjoys doing hair. She became a teacher because she loves to watch students grow as they perfect their techniques and discover a true passion for the industry. Along with good technical skills, Ms. Swenson says that a positive attitude and great communication skills are all necessary attributes of a successful cosmetologist.

Before starting at The Salon Professional Academy in February of 2019, Ms. Swenson worked in a Salon in her home state of New York prior to moving back to Wisconsin where she worked in a local salon for five years and obtained her manager’s license in 2017. Her specialty is in men’s/military cuts and shaves.

Ms. Wilson became a cosmetologist because of her desire to learn all aspects of the beauty industry, including hair, nails, and skin services. She loves being able to “wear many hats,” and she also enjoys feeling and seeing the joy a beauty professional experiences when suggesting something that changes a guest’s life forever.

Ms. Wilson has worked as a cosmetologist since 2007 and became an educator at The Salon Professional Academy in 2013. She also holds a Wisconsin Cosmetology Manager License, is a Certified Make-Up Designory Beauty 101 Instructor, a Certified Make-Up Designory Airbrush Instructor, is Intensive Lash and Brow Tint Certified, Bioelements Product Knowledge Certified, and Glo Minerals Expert Certified.
