Sue received a degree in Cosmetology in 1982, and for 20 years traveled around the country teaching classes for coloring, cutting, and salon management. Over time she began to do international educating. Sue purchased the salon she was working in 1985, and Sue Kolve’s Salon and Day Spa began. Sue decided to relocate to Onalaska in 2001. Only five years later in 2006, she opened The Salon Professional Academy.
After Brian got his first ever massage, he immediately knew he wanted to pass on that incredible feeling to others. Brian immediately signed up for an acupressure class and hasn’t looked back ever since!

Over the past 22 years, Brian has worked for chiropractors and spas, as well as being self-employed. In addition to being a massage therapist, Brian is also a Qi Gong practitioner and a Reiki Master.

Mrs. Carrie became a cosmetologist because of her passion for connecting with people in a meaningful way, and using creativity to change someone’s outlook on life. As an educator, her favorite aspect is helping to grow students into well rounded future cosmetologists. A piece of advice she would give to those starting out in the beauty & wellness industry is to find inspiration everywhere, and never stop learning!
Education: International Academy of Hair Design
Prior to becoming a Cosmetology Educator at The Salon Professional Academy in 2018, Mrs. Carrie worked as a cosmetologist for upwards of 30 years. She also earned her BAS in Supervision & Management and is Redken Design Certified.
Ms. Cassy became a cosmetologist because she loves making people feel beautiful inside and out. With the constant growth and change in the beauty and wellness industry, Ms. Cassy loves that there continues to be new knowledge to learn! She also likes to see those “a-ha!” moments when a student understands a concept or technique she or he has been working on.

Ms. Cassy has worked at a stylist for over the past 11 years and has also been an educator at The Salon Professional Academy for the past five years. In addition to being a licensed cosmetologist, Ms. Cassy is also Color Authority Certified.
Danyel’s core motivation as our Admissions Coordinator is to help others follow their dreams! With her background as a cosmetologist and a fitness instructor, she has cultivated a passion for helping others discover the best versions of themselves. Danyel’s advice for future beauty & wellness professionals is to “Set your goals, and crush them!”.

Professional Experience: Danyel began her journey at TSPA in 2014 as a cosmetology student! After 7 years behind the chair, she decided to become an advocate and supportive mentor for future, current, and graduated students.
Ms. Swenson became a cosmetologist because she enjoys doing hair. She became a teacher because she loves to watch students grow as they perfect their techniques and discover a true passion for the industry. Along with good technical skills, Ms. Swenson says that a positive attitude and great communication skills are all necessary attributes of a successful cosmetologist.
The Salon Professional Academy (2012)
Before starting at The Salon Professional Academy in February of 2019, Ms. Swenson worked in a Salon in her home state of New York prior to moving back to Wisconsin where she worked in a local salon for five years and obtained her manager’s license in 2017. Her specialty is in men’s/military cuts and shaves.
Mrs. Lauryn chose this industry because she loves to be creative, and help others look and feel better about themselves. Seeing the students gain confidence and grow within the program is her favorite part of being an educator. Mrs. Lauryn’s best advice for aspiring cosmetologists is to never give up, trust the process, and keep up with new techniques.

Mrs. Lauryn worked as a cosmetologist behind the chair for 10 years. She has been with chain salons, and eventually opened her own shop for a couple of years. Being that she always wanted to pursue education, Mrs. Lauryn joined the TSPA team as a cosmetology educator in 2021.
Ms. Olivia has been immersed in the beauty industry for many years. After trying many avenues as a cosmetologist, she decided to pursue something she had always wanted to do; teach! With all her life experiences, she enjoys passing down that knowledge to her students and mentoring them to be the best they can be.

Prior to joining the TSPA team in 2021, Ms. Olivia worked for several different companies as a cosmetologist, salon representative, and assistant manager. She spent many years as a haircutting specialist and is specifically passionate about men's cuts.
Director of Education
As the Director of Education for The Salon Professional Academy, Ms. Nelson’s responsibilities include mentoring and training educators, writing curriculum and over seeing the day-to-day operations of the school. However, her real love is coaching and mentoring the students as they prepare for their future careers in the cosmetology industry. Ms. Nelson believes that communication is key to a successful career saying ““If you can listen first and respond with great customer service, then success will follow.”
Stevens Point Area Beauty Academy (1987)
Ms. Nelson has been working in the beauty industry for the last 20+ years as a stylist and salon manager. She has been with The Salon Professional Academy since it opened its doors in 2006.
Stephanie is one of the friendly faces that will greet you as you arrive at The Salon Professional Academy. She is passionate about the artistry involved with cosmetology, and enjoys seeing the students' creativity in action. A piece of advice for those starting their journey at TSPA is to trust your instincts and take things one step at a time. “You got this!”
Sue is a mainstay at our front desk on the salon floor. She loves seeing students grown and improve during their time at The Salon Professional Academy. Sue says a great attitude and the willingness to learn and grow will help make a person successful in the beauty and wellness industry.
